June 07 In mambo kingsPHOTO CALL: The Mambo Kings Polish Their Songs of Love for Broadway By Morgan Allen The red-hot new musical The Mambo Kings, based upon the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Oscar Hijuelos and its the Oscar-nominated film adaptation, is the midst of a San Francisco tryout before landing at the Broadway Theatre on July 20. The musical tells the story of brothers Nestor and Cesar Castillo as they chase down fame and fortune as Cuban musicians in 1950’s Manhattan. At left, co-stars Jaime Camil and Natalia Zisa dance their way through the story, while below, the full company shows off some the production’s choreography by Sergio Trujillo. The musical features direction and lyrics by Arne Glimcher, music by Carlos Franzetti and a book by Hijuelos and Glimcher. Photos by Joan Marcus
